COME TO SUMMER EVENINGS AT THE DEPOT

Speaker Series Resumes August 9, 23, & 30. The first August presentation of Speaking of the Past  at the depot will be August 9, with George Barber, PID manager giving a talk on the Paradise Irrigation District.

The second speaker will be August 23. Arlene Ward, chairman of the Mechoopda Maidu, will give a presentation on the area Maidu.  The program follows the first day of the Paradise Pow Wow being held on the grounds of the Gold Nugget Museum.

August 30, Chuck Rough, town manager, will complete the series with a presentation on the Gold Rush in Butte County.

The community is iinvited to bring their families and picnic dinners to enjoy in the park before the program - and to visit the Depot Museum.

The big-screen presentations are displayed from the depot platform, with the audience sitting on the grass in the park.  It's a great way to spend a summer evening with family, freinds and a picnic.

Join the AnnieB Baseball Party

The Museum is putting together a group to attend the August 15 Outlaws baseball game at 7:00 p.m. in Nettleton Stadium in Chico.  By presenting the flyer that was enclosed in your August Gold Dust, 50 percent of your ticket purchase will go to the AnnieB grant pool, thereby increasing the match for donations to the Museum.

Thea Max and Ray Harrington are putting together a Gold Nugget Museum group and can be contacted at 877-8174.  If you want to go on your own, thats fine, but being part of the group would be fun.  Ray and Thea have extra flyers for anyone who can use one.

Old Timers' Picnic to Honor Firefighters

August 17, 2008

The old Timers picnic to be held Sunday, August 17, on the Museum grounds.  The honorees are the many retired fire fighters and members of the fire department auxiliary still living on the Ridge.

Visiting begins at 11:00 a.m. and the pot luck lunch is served at 1:00 p.m.  Newcomers as well as long-time residents are welcome.

There is no charge, all you need to bring is a dish to share and your table service.  It is a great way to learn some local history - and to thank some of the folks who keep us safe.  Please come and visit with old and new friends and honor the courageous citizens who have protected our town in years gone by.

DEPOT MUSEUM OPEN MORE HOURS

MORE VOLUNTEERS - MORE DEPOT HOURS

Thanks to the great success of the Paradise Depot Museum during the first year of operation, we are planning to expand the Depot's hours.  To this point, the Depot has been open only on weekends and during special events, now we plan to open weekday afternoons as well.  It's a popular spot, particuarly during good weather when folks come to enjoy the Community Park.

The additional open hours at the depot are possible because six wonderful Ridge residents have volunteered to work as docents.  They will begin working four-hour shifts throughout the summer.

Anyone interested in volunteering at either museum will be equally welcome.
