We like to think of the printer of newspapers in the 1850s as starting the Gold Rush by sending the news of gold discovery around the world. This display depicts a typical print shop of the late 1800s.
This display includes antique printing equipment and supplies, presses, a paper cutter, a font cabinet (full of fonts in several styles), a granite make-up table and a small hand press that can be used by visitors on special occasions. It is interesting that all of this heavy equipment has now been replaced by a computer and printer that fit on your desk at home.
